If your roof has seen better days and it’s time to replace it, you likely have a lot of questions about the installation process. A new roof is a big investment and you’ll want this crucial job done properly by roofing professionals who have in-depth knowledge of this industry.
First Things First – safety has to come before anything else. Installing roofing materials involves working at dangerous heights, often on steeply pitched roofs. Therefore, hiring only licensed roofing contractors is the best way for residential, commercial or industrial roof installation.
Before you reach out to the best roofing contractors in Australia, let’s understand the 6 crucial steps in roof installation –
No 1. Site Evaluation and Planning – The process of roof installation starts with an initial home/commercial place visit by roofing professionals to thoroughly inspect the entire roof structure and take precise measurements. The crew checks for any signs of water damage, dry rot, or needed repairs. They evaluate access points, safety considerations for working at heights, and the complexity of the project. These evaluations help them design a comprehensive installation plan tailored to your roofing needs.
No 2. Tear-off of Old Roof – In the next step, the existing roofing materials are removed using special tools. Here, the roofers make sure to avoid damage to the vulnerable roof decking underneath. All old materials get disposed of properly offsite. If any decking or structural issues are found, repairs are made at this stage to create a sound foundation to begin the process.
No 3. Weatherproofing – In this stage, specialised protective membranes are carefully rolled out to shield the roof deck and interior from moisture infiltration or leaks. Proper weatherproofing creates a seamless moisture barrier and gives you complete peace of mind.
No 4. Ventilation & Flashing – Vulnerable areas like roof penetrations, joints, etc. are meticulously sealed and reinforced using long-lasting, non-corrosive flashing materials. Strategic ventilation is also added during this step to promote airflow and prevent moisture buildup.
No 5. Shingle/Tile Installation – Starting from the bottom roof edge, the outermost roofing layer (e.g. shingles, concrete tiles, metal panels) gets installed in overlapping rows working upwards. Roofing professionals here pay close attention to detail to keep courses straight and evenly spaced
No 6. Finishing Touches – Final details like the drip edge, exterior trim, and pipe boots are installed to provide a fully weatherproof seal. The crew then cleans and hauls away roofing debris, leaving the property in pre-installation condition.
